Description
This is a photograph painted with water color pencils and then digitally re-worked on the computer.
The steps go down to Overlook Terrace from Fort Washington Avenue at 187 Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, New York. It's a steep climb I usually avoid by taking an elevator in the subway station a couple of blocks away. The huge blizzard of 1996 buried the steps so deep that the neighborhood kids (including mine) spent the time taking the elevator up then sledding down to Overlook Terrace-- where they had to watch out for people practicing cross country skiing.

Lovely work, Sarah! Wonderful colors and perspective. Enjoyed your description - I could see and hear the kids sliding down the hill. :)

What a great picture - the transition to painting is seemless and skillful, with a wonderful light and great sense of depth.
